"God Come Near" - 2 Kings 2:1-12

It's been a long time since we have been able to do much.  Everything is under the cloud of this pandemic and we've all gotten used to the new way of doing things by this point. We know to grab a mask when entering a store, it's understood that holidays are going to be different, a lot of us have become very adept at Zoom. We have adapted. And we are going to have to adapt even more in the coming months as things, hopefully, begin to open back up as more people are vaccinated.

As we look forward, consider with me the story of Elisha.  His mentor Elijah is going to be taken up to God and he is going to be left.  Things are about to change, with Elijah gone Elisha is going to have to walk on his own.  He won't be able to rely on his teacher anymore and the work will fall to him now.  After seeing God take Elijah up, Elisha is filled with purpose and begins his ministry in earnest.  His encounter with the spirit of God transformed him, from a follower to an active participation in the transformation of the world as God would have it.

Have you seen the work of the Holy Spirit this past year?  Is there a still, small voice calling you to serve?  Where is that one place in the world that you cannot look away from?  Where is your heart pulling you?  Like Elisha, we are all called to minister to this broken world.  This Sunday, let's reflect on our call to serve and where we have seen God working in the world right now.

Peace,
Pastor Shannon
