BOARDS & COMMITTEES CABINET General Description: Between duly called Congregational Meetings, the Cabinet shall be the governing body of the church. The Cabinet shall oversee the total church program and is responsible for initiating such actions as it deems in the best interest of the church. The Cabinet shall be responsible for coordination of programming, the preparation of the annual budget, shall regularly review the financial condition of the church, obtain an annual independent audit of the treasurer’s financial records and all special funds, be responsible for undesignated memorials, and undertake the process of strategic planning. · One member representing each board and committee of the church. · Two Members-at-Large · The four officers of the church who are Moderator, Vice-Moderator, Secretary and Treasurer. · Ex Officio: the Senior Minister and other Program Staff
NURTURE COMMITTEE General Description: The Nurture Committee is responsible for developing the spiritual life of members though strengthening and developing connections among members, providing opportunities for fellowship with each other and care for members in need, and in conjunction with clergy, offering adult education opportunities. · 11 members each with a 1 year commitment renewable for 3 years. · Ex Officio: the Senior Minister
WORSHIP COMMITTEE General Description: The Worship Committee, in conjunction with the Senior Minister and Director of Music, is responsible for the overall worship experience in the Church, including particularly the regular Sunday worship service and all special services as well as services according to the annual Church calendar of seasonal worship services. The Worship Committee will serve as a point of contact for other faith communities with respect to matters concerned with the worship experience. The Committee shall proactively be responsible for spiritual growth and opportunity for the congregation through worship services and shall be generally involved in all aspects of meaningful worship service in the Church. · 7 members each with a 1 year commitment renewable for 3 years. · Ex Officio: the Senior Minister and Director of Music
STEWARDSHIP AND BENEVOLENCE COMMITTEE General Description: The Stewardship Committee is responsible for planning and administering the stewardship and benevolence activities of the church. The plans, methods, and efforts of this committee will raise the consciousness of the congregation about the importance of stewardship and the benefit of benevolence to the Christian life and the life of the church. ? 11 members elected to 1-year terms, plus the senior minister (ex-officio) ? Elected members may serve up to 3 consecutive (1-year) terms
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE General Description: The Christian Education Committee works to create, improve, and maintain educational programs within the church, striving to teach the beliefs and values of our Christian faith, and to provide Christian educational opportunities for students nursery aged through Senior High. The Christian Education Committee serves as an advisory board to the Director of Christian Education, and supports the Youth Director. ? 7 members elected to 1-year terms, plus the Director of Christian Education (ex-officio) ? Elected members may serve up to 3 consecutive (1-year) terms
BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE General Description: The Building and Grounds Committee is responsible for all physical property of the Church, including the Church building, the surrounding grounds, parking lot, Memorial Garden and the physical assets within the building. The Building and Grounds Committee shall be responsible for keeping such a record of assets and inventory as shall be deemed appropriate. The Building and Grounds Committee shall be responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance coverage for the Church building against loss and including appropriate liability coverage. The Building and Grounds Committee shall be the primary point of contact for those Church personnel involved with building maintenance and custodial activities. The Building and Grounds Committee shall be the primary point of contact for the pastor regarding requirements for Church assets or purchases, improvements and maintenance of the Church building. · 9 members each with a 1 year commitment renewable for 3 years.
YOUTH COMMITTEE General Description: The Youth Committee will support youth programming and the Youth Director by providing vision, oversight and guidance to bring about a youth program that enhances personal development, nurtures healthy interpersonal relationships, and builds and strengthens the church’s presence in the wider community. The programs will be structured in a manner that invites and includes a high percentage of available youth in safe activities which achieve a balance of both service and fun. · 1 Youth Advisor · 2 parents; preferably 1 with senior high youth, 1 with middle school youth · 4 youth; preferably 2 senior high youth and 2 middle school youth · Ex Officio: Youth Director · This committee may choose to rotate members in May, rather than January
JUSTICE AND PEACE COMMITTEE General Description: The Justice and Peace Committee is responsible for providing opportunities for awareness, education, outreach and action in response to needs, issues, concerns and crises in the local community, nationally, and globally. The committee will act as a facilitator for the congregation in formulating faithful responses to such needs, issues, concerns and crises. The committee role is to educate and lead in outreach and action, recognizing the individuality of each member allowing the extent of individual participation to be left to the discretion of each individual. · A minimum of five members elected to one-year terms and to be comprised of persons concerned for Justice and Peace outreach and action. ? Elected members may serve any number of consecutive (1-year) terms
HUMAN RESOURCE COMMITTEE General Description: The Human Resource Committee’s responsibility is to work directly with the Volunteer Coordinator to focus on all volunteer skills, abilities and gifts, to fill all church offices. · Senior Minister and 5 members, each with a 1 year commitment renewable for up to 3 years.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR General Description: Maintain an updated list of members names with their interests, talents and gifts. · 1 year commitment renewal for a minimum of 3 years.
PERSONNEL General Description: The Personnel Committee is a standing committee and is responsible to the Cabinet. In general, the function of the committee is one of evaluation and as a sounding board for the employees of the church. · 5 members of the committee are provided for by the constitution and consists of: the moderator, the vice moderator, the church clerk, the church treasurer and one elected member. · The Senior Minister is an ex-officio member except in matters pertaining to him or her.
